Santa visits Bracken County

Signature communities are working hard to get into the holiday spirit. Last week, volunteers at Bracken County Nursing & Rehab Center took time out to help decorate and spread Christmas cheer.

Helpers from the Homemakers Association visited with residents as they filled the facility with holiday décor. While ‘decking the halls,’ visitors, staff and residents were all surprised when Santa strolled in. Pictures were snapped as residents shared their Christmas wish list with ol’ St. Nick.

Staff couldn’t even resist the chance to visit!

Tobacco stripping brings back fond memories

Bracken County Nursing and Rehab residents were treated to a unique activity of tobacco stripping.

With the help of Maintenance Director Rick Douglas, residents got straight to work on different grades of tobacco.  Although a new experience to some, a few residents at Bracken County recalled stories from farm life.

Bracken County staff enjoyed sharing in this moment as they watched residents work with the same heart, determination, and skill of their younger years. This seemingly basic activity turned into such a wonderful experience sparking fond memories of days gone by, but so obviously not forgotten.

Through the power of love anything is possible. February 14th has always been a lover’s holiday. Here at Bracken County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, we celebrate the love for everyone, not just couples. Cake, candy, punch, and games were some of the things that our residents enjoyed. We played “How Many Kisses,” which involved the residents and guests guessing how many Hershey Kisses were in a pink champagne glass. The winners of the game were Louise Cantor and Bobbi Hargett. The runners up were Robert McCane, Evelyn Downing, Bob Marshall, Nora Hargett, and Mary Carte. We also crowned our Valentine’s Day King and Queen, who were decided by staff votes. The winners were King Marvin Bach and Queen Mildred Beyersdoerfer. Love was in the air throughout the day.
